Almost Two Months In Phuket

I just finished almost two months stay in Thailand with included visiting Singapore, Malaysia and Myanmar.  The first ten days in Phuket were spend on a boat called Ladyandaman.  This is a party boat  people can hire to cruise the Andaman Sea in relative luxury.  Check out party boat hire in Phuket

I then moved a house just out of Patong surprisingly close to the main tourist area but in a housing estate with a semi-rurual feel to it.  I enjoyed staying there and spent most of the time working and getting an education on beer. I have a personal blog about being an expat in Asia and have been recording all the beers i have tried and now it looks more like a beer blog.   See my Christopher Bennetts Travel and Living in Asia blog.  I think will have to create a new separate beer blog as i like to remember the different beers i have tried so i know what to select in the future.

When you look at all the beer it does seem a lot but really it worked out to just a few bottles a day.  Only on one occasion did I drink to excess and actually get a little intoxicated.

Perhaps my favourite beer or shall we say in top five is this one.

Rochefort 10 is a Trappistes beer (actually made by modern day monks) that is truly what the person had in mind when he described beer as nectar of God's.

Living On A Boat In Phuket Thailand

I am currently in Phuket Thailand living on a boat for a few weeks.  This is my first time to spend any time on a boat.  I once stayed on a luxury yacht for a night for a party but we did not leave the peer.  The boat I am currently staying on is anchored 1.5 Klm off shore and tomorrow we will be off island hopping.  The boat is called ladyandaman which is a play on the fact that is based on the Andaman sea.  I am enjoying living on a boat but not sure I want to do so for any extended length of time.  There are still a lot of adjustments to make despite the fact that this is a luxury boat with many other vessels.  It’s is actually setup as a party boat.  You can visit the website here   Ladyandaman Party Boat

Back In The Philippines

I am back in the Philippines right now staying in Makati.  Been doing some Island hopping and just got back from Mindanao and Cebu. I am a permanent resident of the Philippines and went to immigration to report while in Mindanao which you are meant to do every year in January only to discover that my Alien Certificate of Registration (ACR) had expired in January.  I was still able to complete the reporting and my status is fine but I was told I could only renew the card in Cebu or Manila so later this week I will renew it at the main immigration office in Manila.  I can not do it today or tomorrow as they are public holidays.

I was recently returned to the Philippines and spent some time in Mindanao and Cebu. Nice to catch up with family and friends. I am heading up to Makati in Manila soon where I still have an apartment but planing to close that early next month before heading to Thailand for a birthday party of a friend.

Singapore may be my new home base

I am giving some serious consideration about making Singapore my home base.  I used to prefer Hong Kong and consider Singapore a city without a Soul.  It always seemed too sterile to me but after a few trips their recently I have changed my mind.  I had to admit that the food is a huge draw card for me. It has everything. The public transport system is brilliant and the infrastructure is awesome.
It is more expensive to live than many other locations close by but it is also so central to everything.

Protect Your Business Online

When I first conceived the interentSOS project I secured a number of domains that I intended to use to promote the service. I have extensive experience in business from SOHO to corporate providing technical support which included security.  While working at Pilkington ACI I developed the national security policy for personal computers which were a new arrival and had spread through out the organization without any direction or control from the IT department.

Through my Computer Trouble Shooters consultancy network I came into contact with many SOHO businesses and much of my work revolved around ensuring their systems and data were secure.  This was when the greatest fear came from viruses. I moved back into corporate environments working in highly secure environments including the Victorian Police where I administered and supported services. As you can imagine security was always a big concern.

One of the domains that I secured is http://protectyourbusinessonline.com/ and only I finally got around to publishing content on the site a few days ago.  I envisage a book targeted at small to medium size business on computer security.  The types of topics that the book will cover are there in on the site now.  The book will go hand in hand with the internetSOS service.   I am already developing business packages for internetSOS.  I know the advice to business I will provide is extremely valuable.

InternetSOS content

I am working on content for internetSOS now.  My good friend Perry Gamsby was meant to do a fair amount to the research and writing but through experience we have determined that its better that I write the content and give it to him to proof read and clean up. Much of the content requires a highly technical understanding of the internet, computers and IT security which Perry currently does not have. It is much easier for me to write it as I already have a very good idea what information needs to be included and with some minimal research to verify facts and collect some supporting stuff like statistics I can produce it much faster.

My method is to use a white board to first mind map the content.  For those not familiar with mind mapping it’s a great way to get ideas down.  In the old days they used to talk about brain storming where you would just write down a list of ideas.   Mind mapping is so much better because it lets you group and link ideas.  It is far more natural and according to its proponents much more like the human mind works.  Once I have it all down I will sit and stare at time for a while and compose in my mind the structure for the content.  After that writing it is fairly easy.  I am also converting my christopherbennetts.info site into a Security Blog and write about security there.

Chris Bennetts – Internet Security Specialist

I have been working in Internet marketing and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for a number of years now but recently decided to put on a new cap – that of Internet Security Specialist. For the past 12 months on and off I have been working on a new Internet Security Project called internetSOS which stands for  Internet Security Online Strategy.

I have been involved in computer security in one way or another for most of my career and have developed security policies for corporate environments.  My work in the area of computer support both as a consultant to business and managing National help desks and support personal also exposed me to difficulty real people have with computer security issues.  What people need is a way to find out the things they need to do to protect themselves online but anyone that has ever gone searching for information on the Internet about security knows that there is an abundance of information out there and this is part of the problem. Way too much information for a normal person to sift through to find out what they need to know.   Some of it is good and some of it is dangerously wrong.  To make things worse much of the information is written by geeks in geek language so you need to be one to understand it.  Aware of this I decided to create something that would assist normal people in finding out how to protect themselves online. I have spent more 1000 hours developing internetSOS.  More about interentSOS soon
